"In his adventures, his fortunes and his misfortunes, Macunaíma, the “hero of our people”, this very “lazy guy” who paradoxically refuses to put down roots, this restless, impulsive hero, crosses the vast territories of Brazil instantly, confuses the landscapes, speaks various local accents, regionalisms and dialects, mixes mythologies and religions, changes color, race, social status and roles, becomes urbanized and returns to the jungle, and remains the same throughout with his desires, frustrations, the search for the talisman and for his lost love until the final apotheosis, the transformation of the perennial nonconformist from an earthly creature to an inhabitant of the firmament, a celestial creature. Macunaíma ascends to the heavens in search of his beloved Ci made into a star and is transformed into the Ursa Major constellation."
